Your five minute guide to reviving dull and tired looking skin

Feeling and looking tired? There’s nothing worse. If you’re anything like me, a sleepless night or bad night’s sleep shows itself in my face and I know I am not alone.  In fact, recent studies in Sweden found that sleep-deprived people were perceived as less attractive and sadder than the same subjects well rested.

So, saying as “sleep-deprived” means getting less than the eight hours doctors recommend and the average woman gets only six and a half hours a night, there must be a lot of us in need of a skin pick me up.

Here are some valuable tricks and tips to help your skin look its best, even if you’re not feeling it!

Puffy eyes? No problem!

The cause: As women, our bodies retain more water (too much salt/ sodium can make it worse as can being premenstrual). Tissues swell and fluids pool around your eyes even more when sleep-deprived or stressed.

Time for a quick fix: Try a brightening eye cream, there are loads of good ones to choose from and you don’t have to break the bank and gently massage around the eye area to get that circulation going and help manually flush fluid from around your eyes.

When tired, many of us feel the need to add an extra layer or two of concealer but this can just make your eyes look worse. Instead, curl your lashes and swipe on two coats of volumising mascara to really open those eyes, make you look and feel more awake and take attention away from those pesky puffy eyes!

Dark circles? No problem!

The cause: Broken capillaries and blood vessels showing through thin undereye skin are the cause of the dreaded panda eyes. If you’re tired, it makes it more obvious as does a history of sun damage or suffering from a cold.

The 3-minute fix: A concealer cocktail should do the trick. An apricot-hued corrector will help to get rid of any hints of blue and minimise the appearance of the blood vessels. Then you need to mix a liquid or cream concealer, in a shade that matches your skin, with loose powder and pat it under your eyes with your ring finger.

Another idea is to find out what is actually causing the dark circles. If you notice your eyes flare up mainly during allergy season, try taking antihistamines which will help to prevent blood from pooling and stop you from rubbing your eyes.

Skin looking a little dull in the morning? No problem!

The cause: Skin cells repair themselves while we sleep at night, so if you miss out on sleep, the process is cut short and likely you will wake up looking a little paler first thing.

The 3-minute fix: This is no joke, but if you do 10 jumping jacks first thing it will get the blood flowing and act as a quick skin pick me up. Next you should exfoliate and load on a heavy-duty moisturiser.

Also, why not try microdermabrasion which is sure to help! The SkinBase Facial™ speeds up the rate at which the skin would normally renew itself – ridding you of tired and dull patches and revealing new, fresh skin and giving a radiant glow.
